Palazzo Vecchio - La reggia di Cosimo

Palazzo Vecchio: so old, and yet so full of new things to discover. Much has been written and said aboutit. It is the symbol of Florence. It has been the city's heart for seven centuries. It is a place where art and history entwine, forming an indissoluble knot. It is one of the grandest palaces in Europe: a treasure-house filled with masterpieces, the result of Giorgio Vasari's extraordinary labours on behalf of Cosimo I de' Medici.
To rediscover the significance and the fascination of Palazzo Vecchio, and to provide visitors with a key to the understanding of this monument, the Comune of Florence has carried out an extencive programme of museological reorganisation and of communication, an important part of which is this CD-ROM "Palazzo Vecchio: Cosimo's court".
The programm was released in 2000 in English and Italian, but unfortunately it is possible to buy only italian version of it now. The English one is sold-out. The Programm tries to show all different sides of the palace - it's history, it's beauty, it's glory. You can see many paintings in very good quality, it's also possible to enlarge them. There are many slide-shows dedicated to all possible aspects of Palace's history. All slide shows are very good sinchronized and animated. There are also sever 3D-Reconstructions of the Palace.
Unfortunately it is only possible to watch these reconstructions as animations, it is impossible to navigate them by yourself.

You will learn about the Palace and a little bit about Florence between XIV. and XVI. centuries. Mainly you will learn about Cosimo I. of Medici as he made the most changes in the palace and he was also the one who gave the palace it's splendor.
- That programm was released in English and Italian, but unfortunately it is possible to buy it only in Italian, the english version is sold-out. As far as I know, it is possible to buy it only in Florence (in Palazzo Vecchio and in Uffizi Museum)
